![]() AN 37° Flare Connections

| The key to AN standard fittings and hose ends is that the flare on each piece that mates together is on a 37° angle. There are other similar type fittings that use a 45° angle. These fittings and hose ends are not interchangeable with the 37° AN-style fittings. All Russell Performance Products hose ends and fittings use the 37° AN-style flare. Most other performance aftermarket hose ends and fittings also use this same 37° flare and as a result the vast majority of these components are interchangeable. If you are using hose ends and fittings acquired from an industrial supply house you must make sure that they have a 37° flare on them if you attempt to interface these parts with any Russell parts. Caution must be exercised because in many cases these components will thread together but will not seal due to the different flare mating angles. | ![]() |

Any of the Russell components that thread together with a flare union will not require any type of sealing compound or Teflon tape for sealing. In almost every instance the 37° AN flare will be utilized when joining one Russell component to another. However, when connecting a Russell component to an engine component or an accessory item such as a water pump, oil pump, or fuel tank, typically this connection will be made with a pipe fitting. In some special instances, as mentioned earlier, a special thread is required such as adapting to carburetors, fuel pumps, or dry sump systems. Typically Russell adapter fittings will be threaded into a pipe thread, which is tapered, or a standard SAE thread, which is straight. All of the AN style fittings with the 37° flare use standard SAE threads. |
