Performance Hose Ends

The second major component group in fluid transfer technology is the hose end.  Hose ends are assemblies which are attached onto the end of the hose and provide a high pressure seal.  These hose ends in turn are threaded onto adapter fittings which allow you to connect the Russell hose assemblies to almost  any component on a vehicle.

Russell hose ends come in three basic styles. The most common is the Full Flow end which is used with Russell Pro Flex hose, and can also be used with the more costly PC-90 hose. The Russell Full Flow end features a taper design that is not only easier to assemble than some of our competition's ends but is also fully reusable.  This means if you make a mistake in the length of the hose assembly you can easily remove the ends and reuse them.

Russell pioneered the taper design hose end in the performance market and has subsequently been followed by some of our competition.  Full flow hose ends are available in fixed and swivel styles.

The Russell Full Flow Hose End is easier to install than competitive ends due to the fact that there are more threads on the nipple and the end of the nipple has a more gradual taper.  The extra threads means that the threaded socket can begin to thread onto the nipple sooner and the more gradual taper allows the hose to make an easier start onto the nipple.

Additionally, the hard anodized finish on the threads makes it more difficult to cross thread the socket on the nipple. See above for a comparison of these Russell features to a competitive hose end.

The second style of hose end is the Russell Powerflex™ hose end used with the Powerflex hose. These ends are made of steel where as all the Full Flow  hose ends are aluminum.  Steel fittings are more suitable for brake and power steering applications and that is where the Powerflex hose and ends are normally utilized.  The Powerflex hose and hose ends in the size 3 style, which is commonly used for brake lines, can be difficult to assemble.  Russell offers a full line of  pre-assembled brake lines in a variety of ends and lengths.  These lines feature factory double crimped ends and  since 1993  have met D.O.T. specifications which makes them legal for use on street driven vehicles.  These pre-assembled lines are a better way to go for brake lines than to try and assemble them yourself.

The third type of hose end is the Twist-Lok Hose end.  These hose ends incorporate the ease of push-on barb technology with a superior hose design to achieve a balanced lightweight assembly.  Rated up to 250 psi, they are ideal for low pressure applications such as fuel and oil lines.
